
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş, paid an official visit to Djibouti within the scope of scientific collaboration and institutional engagements. As part of the visit program, a series of meetings were held to strengthen cooperation in higher education, research, health sciences, and international academic partnerships, and meetings were also organized with graduates of Çankırı Karatekin University.
Within this framework, our Rector visited the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Djibouti, where he received information on ongoing diplomatic and educational cooperation. During the meeting, evaluations were made regarding the enhancement of academic and scientific relations between Türkiye and Djibouti.
Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş also paid a courtesy visit to Djibouti’s Minister of Higher Education and Research, Nabil Mohamed Ahmed. The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in higher education, joint research projects, academic exchange programs, and potential scientific studies in the field of climate change.
As part of the visit program, a meeting was also held with Djibouti’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh. During the meeting, cooperation opportunities in education and research in health sciences, university–hospital partnerships, development of human resources in the health sector, and joint studies on the effects of climate change on public health were discussed.
Within the scope of scientific cooperation activities, meetings were held with the Rector of the University of Djibouti, Dr. Djama Mohamed Hassan, and visits were made to universities and healthcare institutions (hospitals). During these visits, views were exchanged on cooperation between research centers, academic and student mobility, and joint academic studies on the relationship between health and the environment.
As part of the Rector’s engagements, visits were also paid to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) Djibouti Coordination Office and the Türkiye Maarif Foundation Djibouti Representation. During these visits, potential joint projects in education, research, and capacity building, inter-university cooperation, and initiatives aimed at developing qualified human resources were discussed.
During the visit, the International Climate Adaptation Forum (ICAF 2026), held under the patronage of His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti, was also followed. The forum was evaluated as an important platform for combating climate change in East Africa.
Meeting with ÇAKÜ Alumni
Within the scope of scientific collaboration and institutional engagements, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş, who was in Djibouti, met with graduates of Çankırı Karatekin University. During the meeting, evaluations were made regarding the institutions where the alumni are employed and their professional experiences.
The strategic importance of Türkiye’s vision for the internationalization of higher education and the Türkiye Alumni approach was emphasized. It was stated that graduates educated in Türkiye play a significant role in strengthening academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation between countries and serve as goodwill ambassadors.
Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş stated that our University has been admitting students from Djibouti since 2016, that approximately 500 Djiboutian students have received education at our University to date, and that a significant number of graduates have been produced. It was also emphasized that more than 200 Djiboutian students are currently continuing their education at our University.
Our Rector underlined the importance of strengthening ties with alumni and reflecting their knowledge and experience in international academic and scientific activities. During the meeting, the potential contributions of alumni to the University’s international visibility, scientific diplomacy initiatives, and joint project development processes were also discussed.
