Purpose: Civil Engineers are trained to solve design, construction, and maintenance problems of the natural and physically built environment. They plan, design and manage major construction projects. These projects encompass bridges, buildings, transportation links, dams, and other major infrastructure. Civil engineers aim to address some of the major challenges facing the engineering industry today and lead the way in research discoveries and design innovations. Our department aims to train civil engineers who work in various fields to develop solutions to design, construction, research and environmental challenges, and who are interested in projects at all levels for this purpose.
Mission-Vision: The mission of the Civil Engineering Department is to train professionals in the field, to prepare them for civil engineering positions, to provide advanced education, lifelong learning and social leadership. Our other mission is to foster the intellectual development of our students, enabling them to become productive citizens in service. The department is committed to creating a dynamic learning environment that emphasizes open-ended design, problem-solving skills, teamwork, effective communication, and leadership development.
Admission Requirements: Candidates seeking admission to Çankırı Karatekin University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering must have graduated from high school or its equivalent. If the candidate has a foreign high school diploma, the equivalence of this diploma must be approved by the Ministry of National Education. As a result of the Student Selection Exam, candidates who meet the points and conditions valid for Çankırı Karatekin University Faculty of Engineering Civil Engineering in that academic year, and students who have the right to enroll in the department according to the provisions of Çankırı Karatekin University Foreign Student Registration and Admission Directive, can register by bringing the documents specified by ÖSYM for registration. Those who will enroll in the civil engineering undergraduate department should apply the registration conditions and procedures specified in the Çankırı Karatekin University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education Regulations.
Program Description: Our department began its undergraduate education in the 2018-2019 academic year and aims to provide the necessary technical competencies, tools, and personal opportunities that will enable its students to continually improve their understanding, expertise, and professionalism. The program language is Turkish. Our department offers formal education, including primary education, and tuition is provided free of charge. The education model is a face-to-face education model. Face-to-face and applied courses are held in the Civil Engineering classrooms of the Faculty of Engineering. While preparing the courses to be included in the department, the elective courses as well as the basic courses in the relevant departments of the universities that have been providing education for many years in both domestic and foreign universities have been carefully examined, and care has been taken to include courses in the fields that the students who will graduate from the department can study.
During their 4-year Civil Engineering education, students progress through a curriculum that includes courses forming the basis of important civil engineering subjects, such as statics, dynamics, structural statics, and strength. In addition to departmental courses, courses in mathematics, science, and other engineering disciplines are also offered to assist in their further studies. Additionally, our department implements a 7+1 education system. Our students spend the final semester of their eight-semester education in the workplace as part of vocational training in businesses, providing them with the best possible preparation for the post-graduation process.
Assessment and Evaluation Principles and Graduation Requirements: Conditions that students must fulfill in order to obtain a Civil Engineering Bachelor`s degree in accordance with Bologna criteria; 150 ECTS from civil engineering compulsory courses, 60 ECTS from technical and non-technical elective courses, and 30 ECTS credits in Vocational Training in Business, a total of 240 ECTS required to graduate. To graduate from the program, it is necessary to have completed the required courses stipulated in the program, successfully completed applications, internships, and similar studies, and achieved a graduation weighted average of at least 2.00. The measurement and evaluation principles of the Civil Engineering Program are determined in accordance with Çankırı Karatekin University`s Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education Regulations.
Employment opportunities: Upon graduating with a bachelor`s degree in civil engineering, students have numerous options to advance their careers. Students can continue their graduate education by taking the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination and progress academically by achieving the required scores and passing the exams. Civil engineers can be employed in public institutions and private sector project offices, where they are responsible for preparing project drawings.
